The VEXA Saffron Water Method
How to prepare saffron water โ and the little details that make a difference.
Saffron has a long history as one of the worldโs most treasured botanicals. Used across cultures for centuries in food, beverages, and traditional practices, its deep golden color and distinctive aroma have made it anything but an ordinary spice.
At VEXA, we wanted to return to something simple: saffron, water, and feeling good on the inside resulting in a better outside.
Saffron water is one of the simplest ways to incorporate saffron into your day. But there is a difference between simply dropping a few threads into a glass and properly infusing them.
This is the VEXA method.
What Youโll Need
- A small glass or cup
- 5โ10 saffron threads
- 8โ12 oz of ice water or warm water
- A few extra minutes
Thatโs it.
Step 1: Start With Real Saffron
The quality of the saffron matters.
Look for whole, fragrant threads rather than a powder with an unclear source. Authentic saffron threads should have a naturally deep red appearance and a distinctive aroma.
Because saffron is a highly concentrated spice, you donโt need a large amount to create an infusion.
Step 2: Use Warm โ Not Boiling โ Water. Ice water works too
This is one of the easiest mistakes to make.
Pouring freshly boiled water directly over delicate saffron threads isnโt necessary. Instead, allow your water to cool slightly after boiling until it is comfortably hot.
Add your saffron to the water and let it begin to infuse.
Step 3: Give It Time
This is where patience matters.
Allow the saffron to steep for approximately 10โ20 minutes.
Youโll notice the water gradually taking on a beautiful golden hue as the saffron releases its color and aroma.
Donโt rush this part.
Saffron water isnโt meant to be a race.
Step 4: Drink It As-Is โ Or Make It Your Own
You can enjoy saffron water warm or chilled.
For a more refreshing version, pour the infusion over ice. You can also add a squeeze of lemon, fresh mint, or a small amount of honey if desired.
The goal isnโt to create an elaborate recipe.
Itโs to make something simple enough that you actually enjoy preparing it.
Common Saffron Water Mistakes
1. Using way too much saffron
More isnโt necessarily better.
Saffron is an intensely aromatic spice, so a small number of threads can be enough for an infusion. Using excessive amounts can make the flavor overpowering and doesnโt make the experience inherently better.
2. Using questionable saffron
Because saffron is one of the worldโs most expensive spices by weight, quality and authenticity matter.
Choose a reputable source and look for clearly identified saffron rather than an unlabeled powder or blend.
3. Pouring boiling water directly over the threads
You donโt need aggressively boiling water.
A gentle warm-water infusion allows you to slowly extract the color and aroma while keeping the preparation simple.
4. Expecting instant results
Saffron water is an infusion โ not a shot.
The color develops gradually, and the experience is meant to be simple and enjoyable rather than rushed.
5. Turning it into a complicated recipe
You donโt need ten ingredients.
Saffron already has a distinctive character. Start with saffron and water, then add ingredients only if you genuinely enjoy them.
6. Confusing saffron water with a concentrated supplement
This distinction is important.
A homemade saffron infusion and a formulated saffron dietary supplement are not interchangeable. The amount, form, formulation, and additional ingredients can be very different.
Saffron water is simply a way to enjoy saffron as an infusion. VEXA Lueur is a separately formulated product designed around saffron alongside other selected ingredients.
Why We Love the Simplicity
At VEXA, we believe wellness doesnโt have to become complicated to become meaningful.
There is something beautiful about knowing exactly what youโre putting into your glass: water and saffron.
Saffron has been part of culinary and cultural traditions for generations. We arenโt trying to turn that history into a medical promise.
Weโre interested in the ingredient itself โ its origin, its character, its beauty, and the way something so small can become part of a larger practice of taking care of yourself from within.
Because what you put into your body is part of the story your body tells on the outside.
And sometimes, starting from within can be as simple as a glass of golden water.
